How to Make Delicious French Toast
Step 1: Prepare the Egg Mixture
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk (or cream), vanilla extract, cinnamon, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Make sure everything is well combined, and the cinnamon is evenly distributed. This egg mixture is what gives the French toast its delightful custard-like texture.
Step 2: Dip the Bread
Take your slices of bread and dip them one by one into the egg mixture. Let each slice soak for about 10-15 seconds per side, making sure the bread is thoroughly coated but not too soggy. Thick, sturdy bread works best here because it will absorb the mixture without falling apart.
Step 3: Preheat the Pan
Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter to the pan. Once the butter is melted and starts to bubble, it’s time to cook the French toast.
Step 4: Cook the French Toast
Carefully place each soaked slice of bread into the hot skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and slightly crisp on the edges. You want the exterior to be nicely caramelized while the inside remains soft and custardy.
Step 5: Serve
Once cooked, transfer the French toast to a plate and serve immediately. You can keep the slices warm in the oven (set to a low temperature) while cooking the remaining slices.
